Printed Chemical Drum Labels Features

Printed Chemical Drum Labels fulfill the dual role of commercial branding and regulatory compliance on a single label applied to a 20 L, 200 L, or IBC chemical container.

The printing process uses UV-cured flexographic or high-resolution digital inkjet technology to reproduce brand colors, product names, chemical identification information, and GHS hazard symbols with consistent quality across production runs ranging from a few hundred to several million labels.

The face stock—biaxially oriented BOPP or PET film—is selected for compatibility with the chemical class of the product and provides the mechanical durability required for a drum label that must survive forklift handling, stacking, and outdoor storage without tearing or delaminating.

Vizlent’s printed chemical drum labels are available as fully finished pre-printed labels for established product lines, as well as semi-blank formats where a portion of the label is pre-printed with fixed brand and regulatory content while designated fields are left blank for thermal transfer overprinting of batch-specific variable data at the point of filling.

This hybrid approach combines the color quality of press printing with the flexibility of in-house variable data printing, reducing both label SKU count and artwork revision costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats and color specifications does VIZLENT require for artwork submission?

We accept artwork files in Adobe Illustrator (.ai), PDF/X-1a, and EPS formats with all fonts converted to outlines and images embedded at 300 dpi minimum. Colors should be specified in CMYK for process printing or as Pantone (PMS) spot colors for brand-critical elements. Our prepress team reviews all submitted artwork and provides a digital proof for approval before production commences, at no additional charge for standard artwork.

How does UV inkjet printing compare to flexographic printing for chemical drum labels?

UV digital inkjet printing is well-suited to short runs (500–5,000 labels) and designs requiring frequent revision, as there is no plate cost and changeover is fast. Flexographic printing is more economical for long runs (3,000+ labels) and delivers consistent color reproduction with the precision required for brand-sensitive applications. Both processes produce UV-cured ink films on our film face stocks with equivalent chemical resistance. VIZLENT operates both technologies and can recommend the appropriate process based on your quantity and quality requirements.

What is the MOQ for custom printed chemical drum labels?

For digital UV inkjet printing, the MOQ is 500 labels per design, making it practical for small chemical producers, new product launches, and companies managing a large number of low-volume product SKUs. For flexographic printing, the MOQ is 3,000 labels per design to amortize plate preparation cost. Volume pricing is available for orders above 10,000 labels, and we can combine multiple designs into a single flexographic run to reduce effective MOQ.

Are VIZLENT printed drum labels resistant to the type of chemical they identify?

Yes. The UV-cured ink film used in our printing processes is chemically resistant to oils, common solvents, and dilute acids and alkalis under splash and short-term contact conditions. For products with particularly aggressive solvency—such as ketones, esters, or chlorinated solvents—we recommend applying an overlaminate film to protect the printed surface. We also select the face stock adhesive based on the chemical class of the drum contents to ensure bond integrity is maintained if product contacts the label perimeter.

Can partial labels be pre-printed with fixed content while leaving space for thermal transfer variable data?

Yes, this semi-blank format is one of our most popular configurations for chemical drum labels. We pre-print all fixed brand content, GHS pictograms, hazard statements, and product information in full color during the press run, leaving clearly defined blank zones for batch numbers, fill dates, operator codes, and other variable data to be added via thermal transfer overprinting at the filling station. This approach eliminates the need to carry separate label SKUs for every production variant while maintaining full-color brand quality.
