Wax ribbons are best suited for general-purpose, short-term applications where labels won’t be exposed to extreme friction, chemicals, or outdoor elements. Common uses include shipping labels, retail apparel tags, warehouse inventory labels, and basic product identification on paper substrates.
Standard wax ribbons are the most economical option, perfect for printing on paper labels for short-term use. Wax-resin ribbons incorporate resin into the ink formulation, making them slightly more expensive but significantly more resistant to smudging and scratching. While wax is ideal for basic shipping labels, wax-resin is better for synthetics like BOPP and labels requiring greater durability.
It is not recommended. Wax ink is specifically designed to bond with the porous surfaces of uncoated and coated paper labels. If used on glossy synthetic materials like PET or BOPP, the wax ink will not adhere properly and will easily wipe off. For synthetic labels, a wax-resin or full resin ribbon is required.
Not if you choose a high-quality product. Our wax ribbons are manufactured with a specialized anti-static back coating. This protective layer reduces friction and static electricity, actively protecting your flat-head thermal printers and extending the life of the printhead, despite being an economical ink option.
This depends entirely on the specific make and model of your thermal transfer printer. Some brands require the ink to face inward on the roll (CSI), while others require it to face outward (CSO). Checking your printer’s user manual or the routing diagram inside the media compartment will confirm the correct orientation for your equipment.
